Solitary Nation, 2014, documentary, Daniel Edge, PBS | Frontline, 22 April

Solitary Nation is a documentary that depicts and reveals up-close, graphic insights into the solitary confinement unit Maine’s maximum security prison. It uncovers the harsh reality of the treatment, segregation and isolation of inmates and the debates on prison reform. We extract clips of interviews with prisoners and background sounds to integrate into our audio narrative, establishing the current situation of the prison system. We wanted to create empathy by selecting emotive dialogue which reflected the mental state of those suffering in solitary confinement.
